Make It Enterprising Schools Challenge

A recent Make It Enterprising Schools Challenge organized by Aircelle gave U.K. students the chance to learn more about careers in modern manufacturing while creating aircraft concepts for their favorite celebrities.

Teams from three schools in Burnley – which is home to Aircelle Ltd., the Aircelle Group’s U.K. operations – competed against eight other East Lancashire Schools during the day-long event, which challenged  students to set up their own mini-manufacturing company. Among the students’ innovative proposals were a new environmentally-friendly aircraft called Legacy 600 for celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and a brightly-colored version of the Airbus A320 for pop singer Lady Gaga. The first place team – from St. Wilfrid’s CE High School and Technology College in Blackburn – was awarded a trophy, shopping coupons, and a special tour of the Aircelle factory. They will now participate in the competition’s regional final in April 2010.
