Monument to NW Aerospace: Triplane to Typhoon

The book Triplane to Typhoon, the definitive record of aircraft produced in Lancashire and the North West of England from 1910 to the present day, came about as a result of a discussion between aviation writer James H Longworth and civic leaders representing the region at the Farnborough International Air Show 2002.

The Brief

Lancashire County Council, members of the aerospace industry and other partners have appointed collaborative consultants Atoll Ltd to conduct a feasibility study into the commissioning of a major piece of contemporary art to celebrate the contribution made by the aerospace industry to the economy of Lancashire and the North West. A Project Steering Group has also been established and the initiative already enjoys the support of the aerospace industry in Lancashire, including BAE Systems and Aircelle who have indicated its willingness to consider investment in the project.
